Introduction to Our Taijiquan Program in Herndon, VA
Few martial arts are as helpful for staying healthy as our Taijiquan program in Herndon, VA. The activity can prevent and heal illnesses like breast cancer and arthritis and is good exercise for the whole body. Here at Qi Elements, we aim to share these benefits with as many students as possible and therefore welcome new ones at any time.
We have drop-in and trial Taijiquan classes available for those who would like to try us out before they commit. However, there are no annual contracts required for those who do, just a good work ethic and an eagerness to learn. Of course, prospective students may also feel free to stop by and observe some of our classes. We’re confident you’ll be impressed by what you see.
How Our Taijiquan Classes Start
As a beginner in our training program, you have a structured program of set requirements for achievement through the first 3 curriculum levels: White Sash, Yellow Sash, and Green Sash. You can find the specific requirements for these levels spelled out in the progress charts for each. The requirements provide you with a thorough introduction to the principles of Taijiquan practice. They include: • Postures • Movements • Internal Energy Cultivation And Circulation • Partner Practice • Taijiquan-Based Self-Defense
Moving Through Our Taijiquan Program
As you progress along our curriculum, you learn the Yang Chengfu outdoor version of the traditional Yang-style bare-hand long form. We call these applications “standard” and use them as aids to teach form movements and, at the higher levels, additional applications. You also gain teaching experience and choose from a number of elective components to tailor your training to your personal goals. This in-depth training covers 5 core components: • Bare-Hand Form And Applications • Taiji-Qigong--The Internal Side Of Taijiquan • Zhan Zhuang (Standing Meditation) • Partner Exercises Including Stationary And Moving Pushing Hands • Taijiquan-Based Self-Defense
Advanced Levels and Taijiquan Self-Defense Classes
When you complete the beginner levels and are awarded the Green Sash, you enter the intermediate ranks: Blue, Purple, and Red Sashes. Here, you maintain and improve the skills you have learned by teaching the beginner levels. When you complete the Red Sash requirements, you enter the advanced ranks: Brown and Black Sashes and post-Black Sash training.
Students often look to this art to learn self-defense, and with enough study and discipline, that is entirely possible. The advantage of Taijiquan self-defense classes is that they’re less reliant on youth. Exceptional strength and speed are not required, so the skills you learn with us last you longer. Even better, they boost confidence and help you stay healthy.
